Meet our New Head of School
Dear Bement Community,
I am extremely honored to have been selected as the next Head of School at Bement. I am grateful for the thoughtful and thorough process, led by Allison Fry, Scott Smith, Jennie Chibani, and the entire search committee, that has brought our community to this moment. During my two day interview at Bement, I very much enjoyed meeting with many of you to share my excitement for the position and, most importantly, to learn about your love of the school and your hopes for Bement’s future.
As Bement’s current lower school head, I feel especially lucky to have already had many opportunities to see how special Bement is. To regularly observe our students joyfully participating in an arts class, puzzling through a math or science question, writing creatively, reading voraciously, exploring complex historical concepts, and utilizing our beautiful outdoor spaces for learning fills me with pride for the many and varied ways in which children grow at our school. The manner in which the whole community embodies the school’s core values may be my most favorite aspect of Bement. Seeing compassion, integrity, resilience, and respect discussed in classrooms, practiced by children, and modeled by teachers every day makes me feel confident about the children’s essential social-emotional skills, as well as hopeful for their future world.
As we embark together on the school’s second century, I feel fortunate to have been a part of Bement’s year-long Centennial celebrations. The early years of our history, starting with Grace Bement’s innovative vision for her school, have been deeply inspiring to me as an educator. I am honored to join Bement’s previous heads in continuing our founder’s impressive work in service to the school. As I step into this role, I look forward to continuing to partner with our dedicated families and to strengthen my connection with the upper school and boarding students. I’m very eager to get to know our devoted alumni better and to learn from their treasured memories at their special school.
As we look forward to Bement’s next hundred years, I am eager to lead our collective work together in support of our
extraordinary school and the students who call it their home.
With tremendous gratitude and excitement,
-Anna Casey, Head of School
