Lower School Teacher

Director of Finance and Operations
The Bement School seeks a Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) to oversee day-to-day school operations, and manage the physical resources of the school. Reporting to the Head of School, and working closely with the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, the DFO is a member of Bement’s Leadership Team, and a key strategic and thought partner for the Head of School.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
- Substantial experience in management or accounting, preferably in an academic setting.
- Managerial and supervisory experience, particularly in an independent school and/or nonprofit setting.
- A working knowledge of nonprofit accounting and finance essentials.
- Desire to build considerable expertise in the financial accounting, reporting, and modeling relevant to independent schools.
- Knowledge of human resources best practices as they pertain to hiring, supervision, and evaluation processes.
- Desire to become a key part of a vibrant community.
- Ability to respond actively and decisively to unexpected challenges with grace and confidence.
- Comfort with multitasking and prioritization of large and important projects.

Responsibilities and duties of the Director of Finance and Operations include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop and maintain an annual operating budget and financial plans.
- Collaborate with the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees and the Head of School to manage Bement’s financial and physical resources.
- Lead and supervise a Business Office team that includes accounting and HR capacities.
- Oversee several administrative and operational departments including Dining Services, Student Health Services, Buildings and Grounds, Housekeeping, Transportation, and Information Technology Services.
- Partner with the Director of Admission to manage annual re-enrollment and financial aid processes.
- In concert with the Head of School and the Leadership Team, establish and uphold all employment policies as delineated in Bement’s Employee Handbook.
- Manage institutional assets and set strategic financial direction with an eye toward risk management and intergenerational equity.
- Develop, uphold, and advance an affirming, inclusive climate for all stakeholders in the Bement community.
- Serve as a leading voice in school-wide initiatives to articulate and advance the school’s mission, core values, and short- and long-term goals.
- Partner with other members of the senior administration to provide leadership, direction, and decision-making capacity for the entire Bement school community.
- Support the school and its leadership, publicly and privately.
- With support of school counsel and Head of School, as needed, evaluate, approve, and execute contracts.
- Oversee administration of employee benefits including retirement savings, and health, life, and disability insurance plans.
- Serve as primary liaison to local officials and offices in maintaining a positive working relationship between the town and the school.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Summer Camp Counselor
The Bement School is a kindergarten through grade nine coeducational day and boarding school in historic Deerfield, Massachusetts. Bement serves a locally and globally diverse student body of both day students from the Pioneer Valley and southern Vermont and New Hampshire, as well as boarding students from many different international locations and US states, and has long provided a rigorous, yet warm, learning environment for our students.
Bement is seeking Junior and Adventure Camp Counselors who have enthusiasm, flexibility and, of course, a love of working with children in both indoor and outdoor settings. This position is ideal for educators and anyone looking for experience working with and educating and/or mentoring children. Junior Camp Counselors provide a safe, engaging and enriching environment for our youngest campers, ages 4-6.
Adventure Camp Counselors embark on regular adventures with children ages 7-12 as they navigate a variety of activities throughout each day.
Camp counselors will:
- Co-lead groups of 10-20 children in indoor, outdoor and field trip settings.
- Supervise campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Maintain consistency in adhering to the daily camp schedule, policies and procedures.
- Be an active participant in all camp activities.
- Organize and lead various small and large group activities,
- Assist Lifeguard with safety protocols while at the pool.
- Follow proper guidelines with regards to COVID protocols.
- Assist in program areas such as nature play and exploration, sports and games, arts and crafts, and others as directed.

Lower School Learning Specialist

Bement is seeking a lower school learning specialist for the 2022-2023 school year.
The lower school learning specialist will have a thorough understanding of reading pedagogy and knowledge of a variety of instructional resources and practices to support readers below, on, and above grade level. Candidates should also have experience with reading and interpreting educational assessments and working with teachers, parents, and outside clinicians to develop learning profiles to support students in the classroom. Close collaboration with teachers, parents, and administration is essential. Experience with a variety of reading assessments and research based intervention programs is desirable.
The lower school learning specialist will provide individualized and small group instruction in literacy to identified students and will assist teachers with differentiating instruction. The learning specialist may also provide support for students in mathematics and executive function skills. Participation in the life of the school may include all school, divisional, and committee meetings, as well as other duties as assigned.

Dining Services Associate

Primary responsibilities include preparing food utilizing recipes and/or product directions, operating a variety of kitchen utensils to cook, serve, and store food; cleaning and sanitizing workstations and equipment following regulatory rules and procedures; serving food as needed; interacting with students, staff, and faculty in the serving and dining area; assisting students with spills and breakage during meal service; breaking down food stations and preparing leftover food for storage; assisting Dining Services Assistants with cleaning serving areas in the dining hall, as needed.
Desired qualifications:
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar capacity preferably with direct knowledge of independent schools
- Serv-Safe certificate required
- Demonstrated knowledge of quantity food production and serving techniques, and food safety/sanitation requirements and procedures
- Working knowledge of food service equipment

School Nurse - Per Diem

Bement is seeking per diem Registered Nurses for all shifts including days, afternoon/evenings, weekend days, and weekend evenings.
The School Nurse will utilize the nursing process, professional nursing standards, and school protocols to provide individualized health care and education to students including triage, screening, assessment and interventions for acute and chronic conditions, medication administration, and care for sport-related injuries. The School Nurse will provide concussion management in guidance of the concussion protocol including facilitation of the return to learn plan and delegation of the return to play plan. The School Nurse possesses the skills and ability to provide immediate treatment and respond in an emergent situation. The School Nurse will coordinate care with the school medical director for boarding students and perform tests and other procedures as ordered by the MD/DO. The School Nurse will assist with health and wellness curriculum development. The School Nurse will provide weekend medication administration and support residential life with on-call weekend nursing triage. The School Nurse will maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards towards students, their families, and employees involved in the health and care of the student.
Desired qualifications:
- Nursing degree from an accredited school.
- At least one year of clinical nursing experience, pediatrics or adolescents in a health care or school setting required.
- Boarding school experience is preferable.
- A valid Massachusetts RN license, BSN preferred.
- Current BLS certification.
- Ability to be flexible, work independently as well as part of a team, strong interpersonal skills, familiarization with EMR, excellent time management skills, superb written and oral communication skills, and a keen attention to detail.
