Monday: Mountain Top Zipline Tour
Zip between platforms high above the Deerfield River Valley on seven zip lines on our most popular zip line tour! With zip lines ranging in length from 280' to 900’ long the Mountain Top Tour is the intermediate experience that is often selected as the best choice for those who have never been on a zip line. After a scenic chairlift ride to the top and a zip technique orientation by the guides, campers will proceed to our zip course, a series of platforms and ground landings - as well as some short hikes - await as campers navigate across the top of the mountain.
Wind Turbine and Solar Field Tour
This tour includes a visit to Berkshire East’s wind turbine site and solar field. The guide will provide campers with detailed information about our solar field and wind turbine, generate a discussion about renewable energy, and answer questions regarding our sustainable energy practices. The Wind Turbine and Solar Field Tour includes some moderate hiking of approximately 1.5 miles to and from the sites. Transportation to the top of the mountain and down will be available via chairlift and/or shuttle van.
Tuesday: Flatwater Paddle & Guided River Kayaking
Students will spend the day on the flatwater reservoir learning how to paddle and navigate sit-on-top kayaks. These stable crafts are a perfect way to learn basic paddle strokes and gain confidence. Participants will have opportunities to play boat-based games, swim, and enjoy a picnic at the reservoir. Depending on whitewater release schedules, we may get a chance to paddle Class I and II rapids on the Deerfield River in the afternoon. These boats are an ideal way to explore whitewater while gaining confidence on the river.
Wednesday: Zoar Gap Rafting
The Zoar Gap trip spans 5 miles of whitewater adventure on the Fife Brook section of the Deerfield River in Northwestern Massachusetts, perfect for both novice and seasoned rafters. Starting with Class I & II rapids, participants can refine their skills before tackling the exciting Class III whitewater of Zoar Gap. Along the way, enjoy opportunities to swim, splash, unwind, or simply soak in the natural beauty of the river. Included in the trip is a delicious picnic-style lunch with sandwiches and cookies. The adventure concludes back at Zoar Outdoor’s basecamp in Charlemont, where hot showers and a slide show of the day’s highlights provide the perfect ending to an unforgettable experience on the Fife Brook section.
Thursday: Mountain Coaster
The Thunderbolt Mountain Coaster takes riders up 1,580 feet of up-track through the forest before the cart heads downhill on the track and gravity takes over. The 3,870 feet of downhill track are designed with swooping turns, banked corners, rolling drops, and 360° turns. Each cart is equipped with its own braking system, allowing campers to slow speeds to a comfortable pace or accelerate to G-Force inducing levels.
Aerial Adventure Park
The Aerial Adventure Park is a series of self-guided challenges at height in the trees with two courses to choose from. Each course is similarly conceived with platforms suspended from a gorgeous pine grove connected by Indiana Jones style bridges, Tarzan swings, rolling zip-lines, TrueBlue belayed ‘free’ falls, and other challenging obstacles to navigate. After initial instruction, this adventure allows campers to move throughout the two courses at the camper’s own pace and at the level of difficulty campers choose. While the self-guided component of the adventure enhances the experience, our staff are there to assist campers as needed.
Friday: Downhill Mountain Biking
Thunder Mountain Bike Park is one of the premier lift serviced bike parks in the country and features a variety of trails for everyone from first timers to experts. Campers will be provided with rental pads, a helmet and a mountain bike. Groups will be split by experience and ability. Thunder’s bike school staff will teach campers fundamentals of downhill mountain biking such as body positioning, cornering and braking. Beginner groups will ride smooth green and blue flow trails, while more experienced groups may venture onto technical terrain and jump trails. Knowing how to ride a bicycle is a prerequisite for this day’s activity.
