Since Bement day students travel from thirty-nine neighboring towns, the traveling conditions may vary from one region to the next. Historically the school has chosen to remain open when the weather forecasts or conditions are not unanimously favorable. Under no circumstances do we ask that Bement parents risk the safety of their children. If a parent feels that driving conditions are dangerous en route to school, he or she is encouraged to use personal best judgment regarding attendance. A child will not be penalized for being absent when driving conditions are unfavorable if the decision is made to keep school open. In some circumstances, meteorologists forecast unsettled weather early but more stability as the day progresses. Under these circumstances there may be a one or two hour delay. Students should never arrive at school before the delayed opening time, as no supervision is available. When this happens, the vans will be delayed for the same length of time. If the weather turns bad during the day, we support parents’ decisions to pick up their children early for safety reasons. If we choose to dismiss early, we will once again post it on our website, will call the radio/tv stations listed above, and will do our best to call you as well.
