Ninth Grade at Bement
Many
students choose the option of completing ninth grade at Bement.
Parents and students alike appreciate the advantages of being
the oldest students in school. Ninth graders take advantage
of many opportunities for leadership, service, class functions,
and experience the feeling of unique class unity their senior
year.
An outdoor
adventure trip highlights the fall term and focuses on
helping the class to bond while developing communication problem
solving skills. It also provides the opportunity for individuals
to test their own skills. Spring term offers a class trip
to Washington D.C. where we have met with congressmen, supreme
court justices and secret service agents. Ninth graders may
assist teachers and younger students with Lower School projects
and classes. The class works together to raise funds for a
class gift, sponsoring special events for Upper School students.
Ninth graders also take leadership roles on athletic teams
in all sports.
Many alumni returning to Bement comment on the importance
of their ninth grade year for helping them to mature in a
small setting, free from many of the pressures of larger secondary
schools. Students appreciate the availability of teachers
as mentors and friends in a smaller and more intimate class
setting.
