Grandparents’ Day is just around the corner (Friday, May 23, 2008).  A fabulous day is planned for our students and their grandparents and grandfriends.  Over 100 grandparents have responded and have told us how much they look forward to spending this very special day with their grandchildren.  As many of you know, button badges of each child are an important part of the day; and the time to make these coveted mementos is NOW.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDEDThe button badges are easy and fun to make.  Please consider donating some of your precious time to come and push our buttons for Grandparents’ Day.

Dear Families of Bement,

Last week the skies dimmed, the ground soaked, and the tent drooped with rain….but last Friday night, inside that tent, this community GLOWED with absolute excitement, energy, and compassion for one of the most amazing annual Spring Fling events in over twenty years!  With over 300 items and 188 attendees, and a net gift of $53,000 to financial aid, the tent was filled with something for EVERYONE!

We know that the goal of this event is to raise monies to benefit financial aid, but the real benefits are so much greater; it is the one single event that truly benefits everyone in our community.  When children see their parents devoting so much volunteer time, they are learning the invaluable lesson of giving back. At the same time, when parents join together to create an event the way they did this year, the parents build their relationship with one another and with their child’s school, and lastly, the total contribution our proceeds make to financial aid ensure that our community continues its commitment to diversity, academic excellence, and the development of every student.

Truly, everyone made a commitment and sacrificed something - whether it was time, goods, expertise – and it ALL made a difference!  We cannot thank you enough for this wonderful opportunity to build and strengthen the Bement community, so a final “Thank you and cheers to next year!”

Happy Spring!

Sincerely,

The book fair had sales of over $5700.00 which translates into over a $1400.00 profit for the Bement community. This event could not have taken place without the help of many dedicated parent volunteers. The organization and planning that went into the event was amazing and added to the wonderful day that was shared by all.

Bement Believes In Susannah!—The Bement Parents’ Association would like to offer their gratitude to Susannah Auferoth, parent of fifth-grader Napoule Auferoth, for her boundless energy, enthusiasm and creativity. Susannah was the mastermind behind the wonderful logo that has been created for book fairs, library and literary events that happen at Bement. Susannah worked selflessly over several months to design this special logo. Hopefully you all have noticed the banner Bement Believes in Books hanging on the barn these past few weeks. This logo is the result of Susannah’s vision and hard work. Thank you, Susannah!
