The Bement School Alumni Association and Head of School Shelley Borror Jackson welcomed Grace Bement-era alumni for a Saturday at Bement. The day began with a lively brunch in the Old Dining Room of Bement House, a room which holds many memories for this generation, including dining and piano lessons. The day progressed with a step back in time where we recorded stories led by prompts from Tell White, our Alumni Association president. Prevalent themes included sacrifices made during World War II, Eleanor Roosevelt's visit to the school, and the range of activities offered to the school's earliest students. We read stories, shared memories of former faculty and roommates and classmates, and perused photographs. When it was time to look to the present and the future, we worked our way through the campus of today until we landed in the Clagett McLennan library, where the guests were treated to songs by our girls a capella group, "Lady Phoenix." We closed with a "State of the School" from Shelley and ended with an insightful exchange of questions and answers about our school today. The Grace Bementers left our comfortable gathering with a warm feeling and a renewed sense of our school's rich history. Thanks to the Bement School Alumni Association who helped make this event possible and to all those who attended.
