Rays of Hope
Last
year several Bement moms, sisters, and faculty were newly
diagnosed with breast cancer. We, the Bement community,
responded to the needs of these women and their families
with the warmth and compassion that is typical of Bement.
Then we took it one step further…literally.
On October 28, 2007, twenty four students and faculty joined
thirteen thousand others for the Rays of Hope walkathon -
toward a cure for breast cancer – in Springfield,
Massachusetts. Along the two mile route through Forest
Park, the walkers were greeted by drummers, singing groups,
cheerleaders, and clowns. Team Bement chatted, played, and
enjoyed each other’s company on a cold, crisp, and sunny New
England day.
Rays of Hope raises money which stays in Western
Massachusetts to benefit women, men, and their families
dealing with breast cancer. Team Bement raised just over
$1,000.00, making a significant contribution toward the
nearly one million dollar total raised by over three hundred
teams.
Thanks to the entire team of walkers, drivers, and financial
patrons. Each participant added their own brightness to
this fabulous day.
