Academics: Fine Arts

Bement’s Fine Arts program echoes the mission of the school by honoring the tradition of artistic development in drama, visual arts, and music. Arts are a priority here, and Bement students are exposed daily to a broad range of creative experiences. By participating in a strong dramatic, musical, and visual artistic program, a child can develop confidence, poise, maturity, skill and creativity. Every year, Bement encourages students to explore each area of fine arts, in order to broaden their creative vision and strengthen their personal voice.

The comprehensive range of our Fine Arts program includes visual art, art history, music history, drama history, computer arts, junior varsity chorus, varsity chorus, upper school band, strings, recorder instruction, 4^th and 5^th bands, annual drama performances for grades K-9, and a culminating 9^th grade spring musical.

Fostering a supportive environment for exploration and discovery, the Fine Arts Program is an integral part of both Lower and Upper School, helping students recognize their creative potential.

The underlying philosophy uniting the Fine Arts at Bement is the belief that the creative process is as important as the final product. It is understood that self-discipline and risk-taking are key components to success. The flexibility within the department encourages students to think of themselves as artists and to develop a multi-faceted approach to artistic expression.

Bement’s Fine Arts Wing includes two art studio classrooms, a band performance space, a choral music room and a large barn/theater with a fully functioning stage. Our comprehensive Fine Arts program, well-equipped facilities, and dedicated faculty join together to provide a fulfilling creative experience for each student.
