Enrichment Programs
Our enrichment programming proved to be
quite a success last summer. Instead of having separate
programs, all campers will enroll in Adventure Camp and
attend morning meeting, lunch, recess, and afternoon
activities as a whole group! Campers have the option to
enroll in one Enrichment Program as part of their own
individual morning schedule. Jr. Adventurers and
Adventurers can decide whether to attend an Enrichment
Program in the morning or attend camp for the whole day.
Here is what we will offer so far. Please note that there
are both minimum and maximum enrollments. Also check back to
our website for updates and additions to our Enrichment
Program offerings.
Hands
On Candy-Making and Basic Baking
Instructor: Ann Caloon
Session 1 & 3
Enjoy two weeks of candy-making and baking with Bement’s own
baker right in The Bement School kitchen! Your child will
learn many safety tips for cooking in the kitchen. They will
have hands-on experience working with several candy and
baking ingredients and materials. This is an experience that
your child will be able to use in years to come! We will
create many different types of candy and baking treats to
bring home each day. Classes are limited to 8 children.
Biking and Mountain Biking
Program
Instructor: Bob Perry
Sessions 1, 2, 3, 4
Directed by Bob Perry of Bicycles Unlimited, this popular
program is for bikers and mountain bikers from ages 8-11.
Bob teaches bike safety and maintenance and leads trips to
many area locations. Participants must have biking
experience and the appropriate equipment for area distance
rides. This program does require the ability to accomplish
distant, hilly rides. Groups will be determined based on
skill levels of registered bikers. A minimum number of
bikers are required. (Bike rentals are available through
Bicycles Unlimited in Greenfield.)
Noticing
Nature
Instructor: Louise Smith
Session FULL!
Children will participate in a variety of field trips and
projects that help nurture their connection to the world of
nature. We’ll dip into ponds, make bird houses, visit a
nature photographer who will teach us to take pictures, and
we’ll learn about caring for animals at a local animal
shelter. Salamanders, tadpoles, toads and caterpillars will
take up temporary residence in our “classroom”. We’ll spend
some mornings swimming and exploring the banks at the
swimming area on Sawmill River in Montague. Class size is
limited to 6. Children age 6-9 only.
Percussion Ensemble/African Drumming
Instructor: Gary Rzab
Sessions 1, 2, & 4
This ensemble will focus on playing as a group using
various percussion instruments, including African drums. We
will explore various rhythms and techniques. Throughout each
week we will create a piece to be performed for the Bement
community. (Students with their own hand drums are
encouraged to bring them to the sessions.)
Campus Mural Design
Instructor: Jun Gao
Session 1
Taught by a professional public artist, this program will
introduce the basic strategy and technique of creating a

wall of one side of a building on campus to decorate and
beautify our environment. Students will experience the
process of creating a mural, acquire the basic skills of
mural painting, and learn to collaborate with other students
as a project team. Express your talent and make our
community an even more beautiful place to live!

Coach Coop's Lax Rats
Cooper Magoon '07
Session 3
Ages 5-11
By definition a Lax Rat is a lacrosse player who plays far
too much lacrosse for their own good! Your child will
hopefully not be turned into a lacrosse monster, but instead
will learn the basics of lacrosse. Passing, catching, skills
on learing the game and treating the sport as something
special is just the beginning. Working on playing with your
off hand is one thing, but learning how to work and play
with other people is certainly another.
