On Campus Events

One of our primary goals is to make sure that each applicant and family comes to know Bement well during the admission process. Seeing the campus, meeting with members of our community, and having our individual interviews with you often accomplish this, but the events listed in this section may be beneficial to you as well. We look forward to getting to know you and helping you become familiar with Bement.

Pioneer Valley Independent School Fair

Bement is pleased to host the Pioneer Valley Independent School Fair on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 5-7 pm in the Kittredge Building. Independent schools participating represent pre-school through grade 12 and post graduate. Information sessions on topics such as how to apply for financial aid, finding the right match, and advice on applying to schools will take place from 5:30-6:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Please contact Kim Loughlin in the admission office at Bement at 413-774-4209 if you have any questions.

Kindergarten Open House (KOH)

For prospective parents* interested in kindergarten. KOH days include a campus tour, observation of a kindergarten class, and a question and answer session with our  Lower School Head, Director of Admission, and current kindergarten teacher.

Kindergarten Screening
Each student applying for a place in kindergarten must attend a screening as part of the application process. Each screening session takes place over two days. On the first day parents accompany their children to the kindergarten classroom at 3:45 pm When your child is settled we ask that the parents adjourn with Julia Flannery and Kimberly Loughlin to a nearby classroom. This afternoon session (about 45 minutes) allows the children to get comfortable with each other, the teachers, and the space before participating the next day without you nearby. The next morning the children return eager to reconnect with new friends. The second day's session begins with an 8:30 am drop-off at the admission office and ends with a 10:00 am pick-up also at the admission office. The child’s application, school records, and a teacher evaluation must be submitted to the admission office prior to the screening.
The screening dates for kindergarten applications for fall 2016 are:
Wednesday, 2/10 3:45-4:30 pm and Thursday, 2/11 8:30-10:00 am
Tuesday, 2/16 3:45-4:30 pm and Wednesday, 2/17 8:30-10:00 am
Tuesday, 4/5 3:45-4:30 pm and Wednesday, 4/6 8:30-10:00 am

Story Hour For Preschoolers

Please join us in our library, the Clagett McLennan Library, for a story hour featuring a book chosen by our kindergarten and first grade art teacher. There will be a fun activity, light refreshments, and a performance of the story book by our kindergarten or first grade class as well.  Parents, caregivers, and children under 5 are welcome.  Admission is free.  Dates to be determined in the fall.

We welcome families to come to other community events such as the Fall Bazaar, Spring Fling, and other events. If you see an event listed on our web site in the Look Ahead, call the admission office to inquire about attendance.
